A fun evening of Short Mat Bowls …

Approximately 20 of our members gathered at Kinbridge Community Centre to try their hands at Short Mat Bowling.

Coaches from the Cambridge Bowls group were on hand to show us the art of Short Mat Bowling — a competitive international sport, that definitely requires a lot of skill!

Completely accessible, Members were able to try it out with the help of assisted devices … no one was excluded from the fun…

Short Mat Bowls is an indoor version of lawn bowling played on a 45 foot long x 6 foot wide mat with regular lawn bowls, and a heavier jack. It is ideally suited in Canada because it is not affected by heat, sun, wind, rain, or snow.

The sport resembles curling, since strategy is more important for scoring than strength. Most of us were too strong for our own good, since the object is to get your bowl to land closest to a target (Jack), while remaining within the designated scoring area at the other end of the mat.
